Director of Photography Ed Lachmans esteemed career and recognition began working with some of the most influential directors of contemporary European cinema of the last thirty years. He has worked with such masters as Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders, Volker Schlondorff, Rainer-Werner Fassbinder, Jean-Luc Godard, Bernardo Bertolucci and Ulrich Seidl.
He has photographed an impressive and extensive collection of films including Robert Altman's 'Prairie Home Companion', Steven Soderbergs award-winning 'The Limey' and 'Erin Brockovich' , Sofia Coppola's 'Virgin Suicides', David Byrnes 'True Stories' and Paul Schraders 'Light Sleeper' .
For Todd Haynes 'Far from Heaven' - the homage to Douglas Sirk, he received an 'Academy Award Nomination', an 'IFP Spirit Award for Best Cinematography', The Venice Film Festival : 'Outstanding Individual Contribution by an Artist', 'Camerimage' an International Award for Best Cinematography given by cinematographers and the 'National Film Critics Award', along with the individual New York, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, and the Los Angeles 'Film Critics Awards'.
He photographed three films for Gregory Nava : 'Selena', 'Mi Familia', Why Do Fools Fall in Love?', two films for Paul Schrader 'Light Sleeper' for which he received an IFP nomination for cinematography and 'Touch'. Susan Seidelman's 'Desperately Seeking Susan' and 'Making Mr. Right'. Lachman's additional film credits include 'Mississippi Masala', 'Less Than Zero', 'My New Gun', 'London Kills Me', 'Backtrack' and 'The Lords of Flatbush'

A veteran of many acclaimed documentaries, Lachman shot George Nierenberg's 'Say Amen, Somebody', Jerome Gray's 'Strippers' and Shirley Clarke's 'Ornette: Made in America', among others. For Wim Wenders he shot the moving tribute to Nicholas Ray, 'Lightning Over Water' and 'Tokyo-Ga'.
He directed Harmony Korines script 'Ken Park', and other directing credits include 'Songs for Drella', a homage to Andy Warhol with the music of Lou Reed and John Cale, 'Report from Hollywood' and 'Get your Kicks on Route 66'.
Born in Morristown, New Jersey, Lachman graduated from Harvard and Ohio University.
